Ice Fishin

Went out ice fishing this Monday morning and was marking tons of fish. Got a few crappie to bite, were about 8" or so. Then when I was jigging maybe 10 feet off the bottom I had a fish come shooting up from the bottom and nailed my jig. Wasn't to hard of a fighter but it was the first Pike I've ever landed on hard water or soft so it was pretty exciting.

Then a while after that I was marking a couple of fish up off the bottom so I tried jigging above them with no luck. So I dropped the jig down to the bottom trying to get them to follow it but no luck so I went to reel it up off the bottom and I snagged something. I was thinking crap cus I didn't want to lose my lure but what ever I snagged was coming up so I was happy about that. When I was reeling it up after it got off the bottom a bit it shook its head a bit and I was like, what the hell did I catch.

Soon as I got it closer to the hole I could see the fish and it was a huge carp, and soon as I could see it it seen me and took off. Took like 30 mins to get it up into the hole and onto the ice since I was using 4LB test with a light action ice fishing rod.

Fish ended up being about 22" long and weighed 7lbs.

Very unusual. Carps normally have not much activity in winter and even do not feed. Congratulations!
